Experience 5 days fun filled winter activities in Finnish Lapland.

Itinerary

Arrival by flight on own. Transfer from Rovaniemi Airport to the hotel. For this day, we recommend an early dinner (not included) at the hotel restaurant since the kitchen will be closed after you return from the Northern Lights Safari. At 19.00 - Pick up and transfer to the starting point of the Reindeer Safari to search for the Northern Lights. Seeing the northern lights is a very impressive experience – especially while enjoying the peace and tranquility of a reindeer sleigh ride. Whilst searching for the northern lights we peacefully move through the arctic forests wrapped up warm on our sleighs. The safari takes place at a local reindeer farm close to Rovaniemi but far enough away that the city lights don’t disturb us. At the farm you will meet real reindeer herders who share their experiences of life hand-in-hand with nature. The reindeer sleigh ride takes about 45 minutes, after which we head back indoors for warm snacks and stories of reindeer herding, northern lights and wilderness life. There are plenty of opportunities throughout the safari to take photos. The program duration is approximately 3-4 hours including transfers. Breakfast at the hotel. Morning free for leisure. In the afternoon you will be picked up at your hotel followed by transfer to Santa Claus Village where you will enjoy some time on own. Walk to the meeting point of the snowmobile safari (in Santa Claus Village / we recommend to have dinner in the Santa Claus Village before the tour) to search for the Northern Lights. This evening departure of a snowmobile safari will be a special experience to discover the magic of snowy forests in the night. Given extra light by the white snow reflection or the stars and the moon, we follow the snowmobile trails away from city lights and looking for the spots to admire the sky. The guide will light up a bonfire and we will enjoy a picnic while waiting for the Northern Lights to appear. Everyone can grill traditional Finnish “makkara” sausages on the fire and we will serve Lappish berry juice to keep you warm. For taking proper photos in darkness, you can bring along the tripod for your camera. Duration of the program is 3 hours, including preparations. The riding time on snowmobiles is approximately 1 hour and 30-40 minutes. The average speed during our short tours is limited due to the safety and traffic regulations. Two adults ride on one snowmobile, single riding supplement for extra charge. The tour is suitable for families with children; Children are traveling in the sledge pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. We recommend having an early dinner in the hotel before the departure. Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy the day free for leisure on own. Evening departure for your Snowshoe hike to the Wilderness Lodge. Open your senses and experience a silence of the forest in the night. Snow reflection, stars and moon are giving us light, while finding a way in the darkness. Snowshoeing is a great way to experience Lapland’s wintry wildernesses, enjoy the fresh and clean air and get some exercise. After a 20-minute transfer we will arrive to the Wilderness Lodge, traditional lumberjack manor nestled by the beautiful river of Raudanjoki. We cross the walking bridge to the river island where we can admire frozen rapids. The area provides high chance to spot Northern Lights. You will get all the needed equipment and we head for the forests trail. Using snowshoes is easy, you don’t need to be a skilled skier to learn what snowshoe hiking is all about – reasonably good balance and warm clothing is all you need. During the trip there will be a break to make an open fire where we enjoy hot chocolate drink and sweet buns in the lovely wintry atmosphere. In the evening, join our tour to see Northern Lights – the great natural phenomenon of Arctic areas! During the tour we visit the best possible place for this experience – take your camera and tripod and try to catch those beautiful colors. We drive out from the city and light pollution about 30 min – 45 min, depending on the weather conditions. If we are lucky, you can see the lights already on the way. The appearance of the lights is not guaranteed but they are often visible on the evenings when the sky is clear. Even without the lights, the Arctic starry sky is very beautiful. You will always need some luck to see the lights and it is unpredictable even during the trip! Great surprises can happen! Please note that thermal clothing is not provided for this program.
