Hotels In Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway
The most spectacular hotel on Svalbard You will find Basecamp Spitsbergen in central Longyearbyen. We can guarantee the most spectacular hotel on Svalbard, with interiors of drift wood, planks from the Russian settlement in Barentsburg, slate, corrugated iron, and sealskins. You get the feeling of wandering in a trapperâs cabin rather than a hotel. The standard is high, and we have comfortable beds and warm bathrooms in all our rooms. Breakfast is served at the timber long table in the Travellers Club. You could spend the night on the Cognac Loft-Room watching the magnificent Svalbard light through the glass ceiling. In surroundings that ooze of proud trapping traditions, you will get a powerful and authentic experience and fantastic stories to tell family or friends stranded at home. Basecamp Spitsbergen is a bed and breakfast so that you are free to enjoy the other meals of the day in the many quality restaurants and coffeehouses in the city. Here you will find everything from coffeehouses with Italian dishes to gourmet meals at Huset. You will find that the pub, which is in the same building and with the same atmosphere as the hotel, is a good place to eat.
Southern-most in Longyear Valley, at the foot of the Longyear Glacier, lies Nybyen where we offer accommodation at reasonable rates in the living quarters that once housed the miners of Longyearbyen. Spitsbergen Guesthouse now consists of three "living quarters". The converted "living quarters" offer a total of 124 beds in single, double and triple rooms. The guesthouses contain a good number of bathrooms with showers and toilets in the corridors just a few paces from your room. The guesthouses also have common rooms with TV, radio and a small kitchen.
Svalbard's historic Spitsbergen Hotel is centrally located in Haugen in Longyeardalen, with superb views across the waters of Adventfjorden and the striking peak of Hiortfjellet. The hotel is within easy reach of the town centre, local attractions and tax-free stores. The hotel has preserved its historic character from the time when it was a staff centre and entertainment venue for the mining company Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani. The hotel is closed in the winter from 15 October to 15 February.
