Itinerary

BERGEN – OS, Apprx. 30 km or 19 miles

Pick up your rental car in Bergen and travel the short distance to your first nights stay in Os at Solstrand Hotel, one of the Historical Hotels of Norway. Built in 1896, the hotel is located on the edge of Bjorne Fjord not far from Bergen in a magnificent setting.

OS – LOFTHUS, Apprx. 118 km or 73 miles

Drive from Os to Lofthus, Hardangerfjord.

A beautiful drive along the Hardanger Fjord .

Overnight and breakfast at Ullensvang Hotel, Lofthus

LOFTHUS - VOSS – SOGNDAL – BALESTRAND, Apprx. 240 km or

149 miles

Drive from Lofthus to Voss onwards to Gudvangen. Continue to Flåm and Lærdal.

Continue to Fodnes, ferry crossing Sognefjord to Mannheller, onwards to Sogndal, Leikanger and Hella. Ferry crossing Sognefjord to Dragsvik, onwards to Balestrand

Drive from Voss to Gudvangen. Onwards to Flåm and Lærdal

BALESTRAND – FJÆRLAND – SKEI – STRYN – GEIRANGER Apprx. 180 km or 112 miles

Drive from Balestrand to Sogndal – onwards to Fjærland,Skei, Olden, Loen, Stryn and onwards to Hellesylt. From Hellesylt continue to Geiranger by ferry – 1 hour and 5 minutes

Overnight and breakfast at Hotel Union Geiranger

Take time for the ferry tour up the Fjaerlands Fjord to the Glacier Museum and glacier itself, before driving over the Gaular Mountains to Skei where you can also drive to the Briksdal Glacier for a horse and carriage ride. Continue through picturesque Olden, Loen and Stryn to Oye and the Hotel Union Øye from 1722. It is Norway's oldest hotel in continual operation.

GEIRANGER – LOM, Apprx. 96 km or 60 miles

Continue on the scenic route to Hellesylt where you will ferry along the Geiranger Fjord to the village of Geiranger where you might make a side trip up to Troll Road before continuing through Grotli to Lom. The Fossheim Hotel was opened in 1897 and has solid timber-walled houses built in the traditional technique.

LOM – HØNEFOSS - OSLO Apprx. 380 km or 236 miles

Follow the main route today south east to Lillehammer. You may want to see the venues of the 1994 Winter Olympics as well as the interesting Maihaugen Outdoor Museum. From Lillehammer, continue south through Gjovik to Honefoss and finally Oslo and the Grand Hotel. Return the car to Oslo city center ( or tomorrow morning)
