With the purchase of the MS ARION in May 2000, Arcalia Shipping Company (Lisbon, Portugal) added another beautiful ship to its renowned fleet. The 6000 gross tons Arion was extensively refurbished to offer its maximum 320 passengers an intimate atmosphere on cruises carefully planned to provide a tasteful experience to the most discerning travellers. Her smaller size makes her particularly suited to cruise more areas not available to bigger ships, visiting unspoiled, little crowded ports, rarely seen from todays mega liners.

Arion was constructed in 1965 at Pula, in Croatia, as Istra. Purchased by Arcalia Shipping Co. of Lisbon, Portugal in 2000, the ship was renamed Arion* (see below) and completely gutted and reconstructed. Her interiors were redesigned and redecorated to create a subtle atmosphere of light, blending into soft colors through its new public rooms and passenger cabins, 92 of which are exterior. While the Arion should NOT be compared to the newest ultra deluxe Mega Ships with climbing walls, ice skating rinks and similar, it IS a cozy, first class vessel that will remind you of the way cruising used to be fun, casual, relaxed and exploratory, since due to her small size she can sail into ports not accessible to the big brothers!

In regards to on board services, your personal dinning room steward will serve you in a relaxed and unhurried environment, whilseyou enjoy the passing scenery through panorama sized windows. Traditional full buffet breakfast is served in the dining room or, weather permitting, in our Lido lounge, where during lunch you can savour some fresh pasta, light salads, international cuisine or healthy choices that reflects the modern taste. Dont forget our afternoon tea, delicious finger sandwiches and warm scones with cream and jam and a wide selection of teas. Dinner is a culinary experience with a balanced menu to please even the most difficult diets. Menus are established by our Master Chefs who are members of the most famous culinary associations like Les Toques Blanches Internationales. After dining, retire to one of the lounges and enjoy a drink or an espresso coffee before going to the show!

The Arion has Portuguese and other European officers and an international crew. Her size and characteristics make her well appointed to operate destination cruises to unusual places away from the main cruising areas.

Memorable moments will be spent on deck, watching the sunrise and sunset with a gentle sea breeze, lying beneath the sun or taking a stroll. Arion has a sea water swimming pool, ample sun decks, promenade lounges, including a winter garden for relaxing moments, cocktail bar, intimate piano bar and evening entertainment in our main lounge featuring our own musicians, dancers and singers. Do you want to get away from it all? Arion cabins are equipped with TVs and films are shown every day, with enough options to please every guest

Why sail the Adriatic? You will enjoy these old yet new ports in the Mediterranean region.

In each of our unique ports of call, you will have enough time to explore the historical cities of the coast such as Pula, Dubrovnik, Split or Zadar. You will discover the fantastic landscape of Kotor Fjord entering to Montenegro. And in each port you will have a wide range of additional tours to choose from the experience this lovely part of the world to the fullest!
