Uglich, Russia

Uglich is one of the ancient towns of the Upper Volga region. The native inhabitants believe that the town was founded in 937. At that time the messenger of Princess Olga built a fortress on the high Volga bank and archaeological excavations discovered the remains of ancient settlements dating back to that time.
