Sogndal

When in 1823 Bishop J. Neumann travelled through Sogn, he gave the following report on his stay in Sogndal:

"What a wonderful village Sogndal is! We studied the views from different points, but they are everywhere gentle and picturesque, creating a superb contrast to the snow-capped mountain on the far side of the fjord. The river, which runs through the valley, with its beautiful waterfalls and small groups of islands, gives the picture a wonderful effect. The waterfront looks like a market town with rows of houses."

Sogndal still is a nice place to live. Today the town is the regional centre in Sogn with 6900 inhabitants. The two thousand students add to the youthful character of the town. During the summer, tourists from all around the world visit Sogndal and they are fascinated by the contrasts the region offers.
