Nuuk - the Arctic Capital, 5 Day Tour

5 Days / 2 locations in Iceland and Greenland

Nuuk is the northernmost as well as the smallest capital in the world – though still the largest and oldest city in Greenland with just over 16,000 inhabitants.

The name "Nuuk" means "Cape" in Greenlandic and accurately describes the position of the city at the end of a fjord, which ultimately leads into the icy waters of the Labrador Sea.

Though Nuuk was founded by the missionary Hans Egede in 1728, the site has been home to humans for more than 3000 years, and today the city is a thriving centre for culture as well as commerce.

Nuuk has plenty to offer visitors: from high quality art and craft work, a shopping centre to the Greenland National Museum which houses a wonderful collection of artifacts and exhibits related to Greenland's archaeology, history, art, and handicrafts, as well as the famous Qilakitsoq mummies.

Not to be missed is the architectural marvel of Katuaq, the cultural centre of which the design was inspired by the waves of the northern lights, icebergs and the play of light on ice and snow.
