This self-guided cycling and hiking tour will take you off the beaten track in the wonderful countryside outside Stockholm. Small paths winding through dense forests, hidden lakes and mile wide views stretching across open landscapes are all to be enjoyed while tackling the next challenging track. Just let the fresh air surround you on this active adventure!

Itinerary

 
Day 1     Stockholm

Arrival in Stockholm according to your own itinerary. Stockholm, the capital of Sweden is built on 14 islands and you are never far from water. Well-preserved medieval buildings stand alongside modern

architecture, and just outside the city, the archipelago of 24 000 islands is waiting to be explored. Sights of interest include the Vasa Museum, Skansen Open Air Museum, City Hall and the Old Town (Gamla Stan). Accommodation at Hellsten Malmgård or similar

 
Day 2     Stockholm - Trosa
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch

Breakfast at the hotel. Today your cycling adventure starts with a transfer from Stockholm to Stendörren Nature Reserve. Enjoy the rest of the morning to hike across the many islands or swim in the clean and refreshing Baltic waters. After your picnic lunch, you take your bikes and cycle along country lanes through a varied countryside. You pass the impressive 17th century Nynäs Manor House where you can rest your legs and enjoy a guided tour (not included) or hike the trails in the manor house grounds. En route, you can also stop at Sandvik beach for a quick swim before you continue your journey on to the seaside town of Trosa.

Day 3     Trosa - Gnesta
Meals: Breakfast

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning you can choose to take a short break in Trosa before continuing your journey onwards. Trosa is a charming 17th century town called 'the World's End' because it of its

location on the banks of the Baltic Sea with endless views of the ocean all around. When you are ready you continue your cycle journey stopping at the royal Tullgarn Palace, an 18th century palace located on the seashore. Relax and enjoy your lunch in the

beautiful palace gardens. After lunch continue your journey, enjoying the Swedish countryside at its very best; pine forests, sparkling lakes and open green fields. Soon you arrive at the outskirts of Gnesta

where you spend the night. Accommodation and dinner in Mälby Säteri Bed &Breakfast with shared facilities or similar

 
Day 4     Gnesta - Mariefred
Meals: Breakfast

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning, you cycle from Gnesta to Laxne along the shores of the beautiful Lake Klämmingen. At Laxne, you are met with your canoe and given your canoe introduction. Your

picnics are also provided so that you can take it along on your canoe up Lake Marviken to Åkers Styckebruk. The area has its own unique character because of its geological history - the mountain split

in two and as a result Lake Marviken is today bordered by 50 metre high cliffs. At Åkers Styckebruk, you collect your bicycles again and cycle to the charming town of Mariefred with its narrow, winding streets and colorful, wooden houses as well as being home to one of the most important and magnificent castles in the region, Gripsholm.

Day 5     Mariefred - Stockholm
Meals: Breakfast

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you have a free day to enjoy the area around Mariefred. Choose to cycle to the isolated Taxinge Manor House, which is famous for its cakes. After your tea break, take a break from cycling and board the charming steam train from Taxinge (not included), reminiscent of times gone by,back to Mariefred. Alternatively, you may choose to put your bikes down and wander the streets of this historic village, not missing a visit to the impressive Gripsholm’s Castle. This afternoon you will leave Mariefred and board the steamboat which takes you back to Stockholm, where you have the rest of the day at leisure. Accommodation in Hellsten Malmgård or similar

 
Day 6     Stockholm
