St. Peter & St. Paul Rocks, Brazil

About 350 miles northeast of Fernando de Noronha lie a group of large rocky islands. These are the tops of the mostly submerged Mid-Atlantic Ridge. A lighthouse was constructed in 1930 on the tallest of the rocks. Vegetation is sparse but the islands are inhabited by many species of birds, crabs and insects. Charles Darwin stopped here on his famous Beagle expeditions.
