Silkeborg, Denmark

Silkeborg is situated on the banks of the Gudenå river, surrounded by large forests and beautiful lakes. The city is situated at the largest lake district in Denmark.

Sights include AQUA - the largest fresh water aquarium in Northern Europe, where you can see otters among other animals.

Your can also take a trip on the world's oldest operative paddle steamer, the oldest steamboat in the world which still remains in its original form. The steam engine is the original engine used on the boat's first sailing on the Silkeborg lakes on June 18th 1861. It is still going strong and when you visit Silkeborg in the summer time, it is ready to bring you on sight-seeing on the lakes and up the Gudenå river.

Finally you shouldn't miss Northern Europe's largest colour fontain, especially not in the evening where you can see the colours change.
