Sassnitz, Ruegen Island, Germany

Sassnitz

Sassnitz is a town on the Jasmund peninsula of Ruegen Island, Germany's largets island. It is a well-known resort town, and is a gateway to the nearby Jasmund National Park which is famous for its chalk cliffs which tower almost 400 feet above the Baltic Sea. These cliffs inspired "Romantic" artists such as Caspar David Friedrich. the old town port of Sassnitz still has an active fishing fleet. Weather permitting, we will anchor off the classical German seaside resort of Binz, just south of Sassnitz. Along the well-tended beaches of the resort you will see the cane sunchairs, so typical of the German Baltic coast. Watch for the FKK signs on the beach....that means naked bodies ahead !
