Mytilini is probably the most visited city on Lesbosand is easily reached by public transport (both boat and bus). It's a busy coastal city with old markets, an old harbour, small cafés (where you can taste the original ouzo), cobbled streets and various museums. The museum of Theofilos gives a nice overview of the life of this popular painter. If you want to know more about Lesbos' history, a visit to the New Archeological Museum is worth the trip.

Mytlini is quite a modern town with a fashionable shopping centers, tourist agencies and luxury boats. Just sit at one of the ouzeries at the seafront and watch the ships come in with the Mount Karvori in the background. The resorts of Skala Kalloni are just a few miles away.
