Kilpisjarvi, Finland

Kilpisjarvi

Kilpisjärvi is located in Enontekiö municipality in northwestern Finland. It is on the border of Sweden and Norway high above the Arctic Circle. Distance to the Arctic Ocean is less than 50 kilometers. The village is almost 500 meters above the sea level. The word Kilpisjarvi is both the name of the lake and the village.

The commanding features in the landscape are the majestic Saana fell and the vast expanse of the Kilpisjarvi Lake. On the other side of the lake lies Sweden. This travel destination is far beyond anything Finland has to offer scenery-wise. All of the over 1000 meter high peaks are found in the region.

In Search of Aurora Borealis

Snowmobiling in the dark is an exciting experience. You’ll set off in the evening and drive out to look-out points for

Northern Lights, this incredibly beautiful arctic phenomenon which can only be viewed in the darkness and away from the towns’ artificial lights. A hot beverage is enjoyed by campfire.

Cross Country Skiing

This is the Finn’s favourite pastime. The guide will fit you with your proper equipment and off you go on a guided trek. A hot beverage of berry juice will warm up your own engine during the event. Equipment rental available.
