Hilerod
FREDRIKSBORG CASTLE

The quaint town of Hillerod lies about 30 km northwest of Copenhagen. The main attraction in Hillerod is the impressive Frederiksborg Castle. Started in 1560 by King Frederick II, the palace became the royal residence of King Christian IV. After his death in 1648, the palace was used in ceremonial events. It now houses historic paintings and is open to the public.

The 30 minute ride by S Train (S Toget) from Copenhagen is well worth it to visit this beautifully maintained piece of Scandinavian history.
