There are many reasons to visit Falun. Todays Falun offers a rich and vibrant cultural life, particularly at the Dala Theatre and the Dalarna Museum. Go for walks and bicycle tours, or skiing and skating in the winter. Lakes Varpan, Runn and Tisken, which surround the town, give Falun the feel of a real lake city with numerous opportunities for swimming and boating. Falun is surrounded by nature and large forests. The municipalitys woods are home to elks, lynx, wolves and bears. If youd like to get closer to nature, rent a cabin on the outskirts of the town. You can go fishing and join wildlife excursions and elk and wolf safaris. During the annual elk hunt around 300 elks are shot in the municipality, as well as some bears.

After a full day of activities you can relax and have a good meal at one of the towns restaurants or pubs. Whether you just want to enjoy a nice dinner or dance the night away, theres an alternative to suit everyone. Falun is host to many sports, music and cultural events. Leading championships are often located here, such as skiing, track and field and indoor and outdoor bandy competitions. In the summer of 2004, the pop group Gyllene Tider with singer Per Gessle attracted an audience of more than 20,000 at Lugnet, which is one of the countrys most extensive facilities for concerts, sports competitions and other events.
