Independent Norway Tour

Discover this wondrous area of Norway on your own. Travel by rental car and visit a Sami Village and a Sami Theme Park. Drive through the beautiful North Cape, then a ferry and Coastal Steamer to Tromso.

Pick up your rental car at the airport upon arrival and drive to your hotel.

Drive to Jiepmaluokta about 4 kilometers outside of Alta, where you will find about 3000 individual rock carvings (petroglyphs) at the open-air museum. The site was placed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites on 3 December 1985. It is Norway's only prehistoric World Heritage Site.

After breakfast drive from Alta to Kautokeino (80 miles) Stop for visit of Juhl\'s Silvergallery! Perhaps also before you arrive Kautokeino you can make a stop at Masi, a real sami village! Onwards to Karasjok (Kautokeino to Karasjok 80 miles)

After breakast, visit Sapmi. This is a theme park next to the hotel that highlights Sami culture, history and mythology. Drive onwards to Lakselv and Honningsvag (175 miles). After checking in at your hotel, visit the North Cape Plateau in the evening.

Today drive from Honningsvag back to Alta (130 miles). This afternoon, visit the Alta Museum and drop off your rental car.

After breakfast, transfer on your own to the Alta pier for a 7:00 am ferry to Hammerfest. Please note that this ferry does not run on Saturday and Sunday. You arrive at 8:30 am and have 4 hours to explore Hammerfest. The Coastal Steamer to Tromso leaves at 12:45 pm and arrives at 11:45 pm.
