19 days and 18 nights aboard the M/V Polar Star

In addition to the longed for journey to the Antarctic, this epic voyage takes you to the Sub Antarctic Islands. These islands are rich in history and wildlife and the scenery is absolutely stunning and pristine. Beneath the clean, clear air are dramatic mountain ranges, beaches ringed in tussock grass, sweeping glaciers, scenic fjords and startling blue ocean waters, creating a photographer's paradise. Add to that the crowds of King Penguins, Elephant Seals, Fur Seals and Albatross, it is a naturalist's paradise

Itinerary

Day 1
Visiting: Ushuaia
On Board the M/V Polar Star
Meals: Lunch/Dinner
Embark M/V Polar Star at the "end of the worldï" (fin del mundo) and sail down the Beagle Channel to begin the adventure of a lifetime
Day 2
At Sea
On Board the M/V Polar Star
Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
Pass the time at sea by relaxing in our library or observation lounge, attend lectures or spot wildlife from the bridge or deck.
Days 3 - 4
Visiting: Falkland Islands - Stanley
On Board the M/V Polar Star

Here, we are introduced to penguins in a wonderful way. Five species of penguins make their home here -Magellanic, Rockhopper, Macaroni, Gentoo and King. We plan a landing at Stanley to explore the museum containing displays on wildlife, shipwrecks and the 1982 Falklands War and perhaps visit an English style pub. These islands will also capture the interest of birdwatchers with the worldï's largest colony of black-bowed mollymawks as well as albatross and petrel.
Days 5 - 6
At Sea

During these next two days at sea, enjoy our continuing lecture program led by our diverse team of expedition staff or take advantage of our open bridge policy by joining our Captain and crew on the bridge.
Days 7 - 10
Visiting: South Georgia - Grytviken
On Board the M/V Polar Star

Upon landing on the rugged and beautiful islands of South Georgia we will have the opportunity to walk amongst crowds of Marconi penguins, 5 million pairs of which make their home here as well as Gentoo, Adelie, King and Chinstrap penguins. A landing is planned in Grytviken to learn about Antarctic adventurer Ernest Shackelton, who is buried here. Other planned landings include Prion Island, Cooper Bay, Fortuna, Stromness and Salisbury Plain.
Days 11 - 13
Visiting: Elephant Island
On Board the M/V Polar Star
Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
An afternoon landing or Zodiac cruise is planned for Point Wild on Elephant Island, the site where 22 men from Shackelton's 1914-17 expedition were stranded for 135 days, surviving by living under two upturned boats. While here, see the plaque and monolith commemorating their rescue and visit a Chinstrap penguin colony.
Day 14
Visiting: South Shetland Islands - Half Moon Island

Experience the true diversity of the Antarctic with planned landings at the volcanic Deception Island and Half Moon Island. At Whalerï's Bay, we can dig our feet into the black sand and see warm air created by the islandï's dormant volcano rising as steam. In addition to other wildlife sightings, this area is also ideal for birdwatching with possible sightings of Antarctic Tern, Kelp Gull, Skua, Antarctic Shag and Sheathbill.
Days 15 - 16
Visiting: Antarctic Peninsula - Paradise Bay

Zodiac cruises allow us close proximity to towering white icebergs and areas of untouched nature and wildlife. Crowds of penguins and seals will continue to amaze in an environment of pristine wilderness. Possible visits may include Port Lockroy, previously a British World War II base, Paradise Bay, Cierva Cove, Mikkelson Harbour and if permission is granted, at Palmer Station, a year round operational research base.
Days 17 - 18
At Sea
On Board the M/V Polar Star
Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
At sea. On our journey home we continue to lookout for whale, dolphin and seabirds and enjoy our concluding lecture program.
Day 19
Visiting: Ushuaia
On Board the M/V Polar Star
Meals: Breakfast
This fantastic voyage concludes in Ushuaia where we disembark after breakfast.
