Iceland's historic capital of Reykjavik is where you will begin and end this spectacular circle tour through the most magnificent natural sights that Iceland has to offer. At your hotel you will receive a private rental car, which you will drive across picturesque villages, past waterfalls, hot springs, geysers, and ancient Icelandic sights. See the shores of Honafldi Bay, the towering mountains and horse-breeding valleys of Skagafjordur, and the natural wonders of Lake Myvatn, including fantastic lava formations. Explore the spectacular Eastern Fjords, where mountains plunge vertically into the ocean and then drive to shimmering icebergs and lagoons. You will be awed by the spectacular southern coast, a sweeping landscape of sandy desert, rocky shores and rolling farmland sandwiched between snow-capped glaciers, mountains and the ocean.

Itinerary

 
Day 1     Keflavik - Reykjavik
Accomodation: Hilton Nordica Hotel

Arrive Keflavik and transfer to your hotel in Reykjavik on your own.

 
Day 2     Reykjavik - Thingvellir - Gullfoss Waterfall - Geysir
Meals: Breakfast

Drive to Thingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament and then continue to the famous Geyser hot-spring area and the mighty Gullfoss waterfall.

Optional: Whitewater rafting in the Geyser area, ATV-quad biking in Haukadalur.

 
Day 3     Vik
Meals: Breakfast

Drive along the spectacular south coast, viewing highlights such as the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, Myrdalsjokull glacier, Dyrholaey and the black sands of Vik.

Optional: Snow scooter tour on Myrdalsjokull glacier, Boat tour from Vik, Skogar folk museum.

Please note that Dyrholaey is closed during nesting season in spring, middle May til June 23rd

 
Day 4     Skaftafell National Park - Vik
Meals: Breakfast

Visit the beautiful Skaftafell National Park nestling between glaciers with its many hiking possibilities. Onwards to the shimmering icebergs of Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon.

Optional: Boat tour on Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, glacier hike in Skaftafell area.

 
Day 5     Egilsstadir
Meals: Breakfast

Through the spectacular East Fjords with towering mountains and charming fishing villages to the fertile Egilsstadir area. There is a possibility to take a boat tour to Papey island where thousands of puffins nest in summer or visit the famous stone collection of Petra at Stodvarfjordur.

Optional: Boat tour to Papey island, Petra's stone collection.

 
Day 6     Husavik
Meals: Breakfast

Across the Mudrudalsoraefi highlands to Dettifoss, the mightiest waterfall in Europe. Explore the impressive horseshoe-shaped Asbyrgi canyon in Jokulsargljufur National Park. On to the fishing port Husavik.

Optional: Whale watching from Husavik.

 
Day 7     Lake Myvatn - Akureyri
Meals: Breakfast

Explore highlights of the Lake Myvatn area, like Dimmuborgir, the pseudocraters at Skutustadir, Namaskard and Krafla. Onwards to Akureyri.

 
Day 8     Akureyri
Meals: Breakfast

Spend the day exploring Akureyri, the capital of the North and the surrounding area.

Optional: Ferry to Hrisey island

 
Day 9     Akureyri - Skagafjordur - Varmahlid
Meals: Breakfast

Travel to the horse-breeding valleys of Skagafjordur fjord and then continue to the shores of Hunafldi bay, an area full of history.

Optional: River rafting in Skagafjordur, Horse riding in Skagafjordur.

 
Day 10     Varmahlid - Borgarfjordur
Meals: Breakfast

Explore Dalir, the region of Eric the Red, before continuing to Snæfellsnes peninsula with its countless wonders such as the rocky beach of Djúpalónssandur and Arnarstapi sea cliffs, before continuing to the Borgarfjörður area.

 
Day 11     Borgarfjordur - Reykjavik - Blue Lagoon - Grindavik
Accomodation: Hilton Nordica Hotel
Meals: Breakfast

In Borgarfjordur area visit such highlights as Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, Reykholt and the hot spring Deildartunguhver. Continue via Hvalfjordur fjord to Reykjavik, end the journey at the Blue Lagoon.

Optional: Bathing in the Blue Lagoon.

 
Day 12     Reykjavik - Keflavik
Meals: Breakfast

Arrangements end after breakfast.
