Icelandair Hengill, a new superior hotel opening in the summer of 2008 at one ofIceland's most dramatic nature settings, near to Thingvellir National Park. The hotel is beautifully located in the slopes of Mt. Hengill, with a great view over Lake Thingvallavatn and the mountains surrounding the lake, just 30 minutes from Reykjavik.

Fosshotel Hengill is the latest theme hotel within the Fosshotel chain - based on energy. Without doubt, the location isfilled with power and energy from the earth. Hot springs, steam, northern lights. It is also the location of one of the main geothermal power stations in Iceland - guided tours are available. The rooms are painted in energy colours and decorated with crystal salt lamps. The house bar serves a selection of energy and power drinks and cocktails.

The breakfast table is filled with energy muslis, juices and teas. Decoration and art work in the hotel is based on energyand power with a nice combination of fantasy.

The hotel features 23 superior rooms, all with phone, TV, radio and wireless internet. From most rooms there is a fantastic view over the mountains. Complimentary outdoor hot tubs, sauna and a fitness room. Fine dining restaurant with panoramic view and the focus on Icelandic specialities, for example trout from Lake Thingvallavatn.The restaurant seats 70 persons. Additional amenities are: front desk, comfortable sitting & TV lounge, conference room for 50 persons.

Location

Known for its diverse fauna and flora, hot springs, lakes and rivers, Nesjavllir/Mt. Hengill is one of Iceland's main scenic nature sites, located only 25 km away from Reykjavík. Hot steam from open craters, bubbling hot springs and dramatic landscape make this area unique. There are over 160 km of marked walking trails, ideal for light trekking and mountain biking. Other activities are fishing on Lake Thingvallavatn, horseback riding and snowmobiling in the winter. Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss and Geysir as well as the fjord landscapes of Hvalfjordur are ideal for day excursions. Guided tours are available through the geothermal power station near the hotel.

The hotel rents out mountain bikes. Just a few minutes walk is Iceland's only Adrenalin-park for those who dare.
