Hotel SnæFell

Hotel Snæfell a three story wooden house built in 1908 situated by the mouth of the river "Fjarðará". It has beautiful views over the small bay in the center of town. This natural estuary is home to birdlife, trout and the occasional Atlantic Grey Seal. The house was first used as the local post office and then in 1943 it was turned into a hotel. Through the years it has played many a role. A shoemaker workshop was there for a few years also the taxi station and a large restaurant. The house also served as a home to several families before becoming a hotel. Among many of the people living there was Ingi T. Lárusson one of Iceland´s foremost composers.

Location

The town is located in the 17 km deep and calm fjord, Seyðisfjörður. It is surrounded by majestic mountains with numerous streams and beautiful waterfalls. The main path to Seyðisfjörður is the 27 km long road to Egilsstadir, the service center of East Iceland, from where there are several connections to the outside world.

First to mention is Egilsstadir airport which mostly is an domestic airport with several daily flights to Reykjavík and Keflavík. In the recent summers there have also been internaional connection to Dusseldorf by LTU.

In Seyðisfjörður it is possible to take a bus to Egilsstadir in connection with the airport or busses driving around Iceland.

Another important path is the car-ferry Smyril Line, whic has a weekly stop in Seyðisfjörður all year round. More details..
