Itinerary

 
Day 1     Keflavik - Reykjavik

Arrive in Keflavik and transfer to your hotel in Reykjavik on your own.

 
Day 2     Reykjavik - Borgarfjordur - Geysir - Reykholt
Meals: Breakfast

Drive to Thingvellir National Park. Continue to the lake dotted Borgarfjordur area across Kaldidalur highland pass (4WD needed - open mid June) or Hvalfjordur fjord. Visit Reykholt where eminent 13th century scholar, Snorri Sturluson, lived and worked.

 
Day 3     Arnarstapi - Snaefellsnes Peninsula
Meals: Breakfast

Explore the countless natural wonders of Snaefellsnes peninsula such as the rocky beach of Djupalonssandur and Arnarstapi sea cliffs. Drive through small fishing villages around the famous Snaefellsjokull glacier which appeared in the science fiction novel by Jules Verne Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Optional: Boat tour from Stykkisholmur

 
Day 4     Skagafjordur - Akureyri
Meals: Breakfast

Drive north over Laxárdalsheiði plateau to the historical region Skagafjörður renowned for horsebreeding. There is the option of visiting the old farmstead of Glaumbær a great example of old Icelandic architecture. Head to Akureyri, the capital of the North.

Optional: River rafting in Skagafjörður, horse riding tour in Skagafjörður.

 
Day 5     Akureyri
Meals: Breakfast

Spend the day in Akureyri, exploring the town and the surrounding area. Due to its excellent natural harbor and good accessibility, Akureyri has become the northern center of education, culture, trade and industry.

Optional: Grimsey excursion, Boat tour to Hrisey island.

 
Day 6     Lake Myvatn
Meals: Breakfast

Visit Godafoss waterfall on the way to Myvatn. Spend the day exploring the many natural wonders of Lake Myvatn and the surrounding area. Visit highlights such as Dimmuborgir, the pseudocraters of Skutustadir, the colourful sulfurous slopes of Namaskard and Krafla volcano

 
Day 7     Husavik
Meals: Breakfast

Drive to the fishing port Husavik and on to Tjornes peninsula and explore the many wonders of the Jokulsargljufur National Park such as the strange formations of Hljudaklettar (Echo Rocks) and the impressive horseshoe-shaped Asbyrgi canyon.

Optional: Whale watching tour from Husavik.

 
Day 8     Husavik - Egilsstadir
Meals: Breakfast

Across the Möðrudalsöræfi highlands renowned for their stark beauty and take a detour to Dettifoss, the mightiest waterfall in Europe before heading for Egilsstaðir.

 
Day 9     Egilsstadir
Meals: Breakfast

Visit Hallormsstadur the largest forest plantation in Iceland set along the Lagarfljot lake, which according to legend contains a monster. Continue along the rugged yet spectacular varied coastline of the Eastern fjords and its charming fishing villages.

Optional: Boat tour to Papey island, Petra's stone collection

 

Visit the glacial lagoon Jokulsaron with its shimmering icebergs and still, milky waters. On to Skaftafell National Park a green oasis nestling below the great Vatnajokull glacier. The park offers many hiking possibilities. Onwards to Kirkjubaejarklaustur

Optional: Boat tour on Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, Jeep tour to Vatnajokull glacier

 
Day 11     Vik
Meals: Breakfast

Drive the beautiful mountain track Fjallabaksleid, via Eldgja and through Landmannalaugar nature reserve (4wd needed). Or explore the area of Kirkjubaejarklaustur and continue across Eldhraun lava field to Vik with its black sands and Dyrholaey.

Optional: Bus tour to Laki crater.

Please note that Dyrholaey is closed during nesting season in spring, middle May til June 23rd

 
Day 12     Hekla
Meals: Breakfast

Drive along the spectacular south coast, viewing highlights such as the volcano Mt.Hekla, Skagafoss waterfall, and Myrdalsjokull glacier. Continue through fertile farmlands to the waterfall Gullfoss one of the most impressive waterfalls in Europe.

 
Day 13     Geysir - Hveragerdi - Reykjavik
Meals: Breakfast

Explore the famous hot springs at Geysir and the famous Great Geyser which has given name to hot springs all over the world. Drive to the greenhouse village Hveragerdi before driving to Reykjavik.

Optional: River rafting in the Geysir area, ATV-quad biking in Haukadalur, Kayak tour from Stokkseyri

 
Day 14     Blue Lagoon - Grindavik - Reykjavik
Meals: Breakfast

Drive through rugged lava fields to the Blue Lagoon, a unique natural pool of mineral rich geothermal water located in the middle of a lava field in the pure, beautiful Icelandic wilderness.

Optional: Bathing in the Blue Lagoon.

 
Day 15     Reykjavik
Meals: Breakfast

Arrangements end after breakfast.
