Itinerary

Day 1     Stockholm
Accommodation: Elite Stockholm Plaza Hotel

Arrive Stockholm and check into the Elite Hotel Stockholm.

Stockholm is a city of contrasts - water and islands, history and innovation, small town and big city, short winter days and long, light summer nights - with a dazzling array of impressions. Thanks to the city's compact size, you can see and do most things in a short space of time - which makes it a perfect destination for city breaks or longer stays, all the year round.

Day 2     Stockholm
Accommodation: Elite Stockholm Plaza Hotel
Meals: Breakfast

Time to explore this beautiful city built on 14 islands, where you are never far from the water. Well-preserved medieval buildings stand alongside modern architecture. Stockholm is also home of the Nobel Prize. And just outside the city, the archipelago of 24,000 islands is waiting to be explored.

We suggest exploring Old Town, visit the Vasa Museum, the Open Air Museum Skansen and many more sightseeing tours on land and water.

Day 3     Stockholm - Mariefred
Accommodation: Gripsholms Vardshus & Hotell
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Morning departure by steam boat to Mariefred (summer only). It is a beautiful 3.5 hour cruise on the original S/S Mariefred built in 1903. Arrive in Mariefred and check in at Gripsholm Inn and Hotel, Swedens oldest country inn for one night.. In the heart of the idyllic little town of Mariefred is a church, a castle and an inn, all dating from the Middle Ages. The inn is built on the site of the old Carthusian monastery. Explore Mariefred with buildings from the 18th century.

The castle is the main attraction and there are guided tours May 15 - September 15. The castle is internationally known for its outstanding collection of portraits, the Swedish national collection, featuring prominent Swedes from the days of Gustav Vasa to the present. Visit Grafikens Hus, an international center for fine art printmaking. The workshop is used by artists, primarily as a workplace but visitors are welcome.

Day 4     Mariefred - Stockholm
Accommodation: Elite Stockholm Plaza Hotel

A steam vintage train will take you to Laggesta where you can catch the train back to Stockholm and Hotel Elite Stockholm.

Day 5     Stockholm
Meals: Breakfast

Arrangements end after breakfast.
