Spitsbergen Trollheimen Ski Expedition

7 Days / 3 locations in Svalbard, Norway and Norway

Take part in one of Spitsbergen’s most spectacular skiing adventures through the glacial landscape between Isfjorden and Kongsfjorden. This area is hard to get to, and is rarely visited by tourists on snowmobiles. At this time of year, the midnight sun never sets, allowing us to explore both day and night.

After spending the first night in Longyearbyen we will be transported by boat to Ymerbukta. This is where the real adventure begins. What the trip will entail is decided by the weather and the participants; however Esmarkbreen and Trollheimen are definitive destinations

Itinerary

Day 1     Longyearbyen

9.00 am briefing, preparation and packing for the expedition. We will go through the gear and instructions for use of cooking gear, pulka, ski equipment, tent, food and drinks.

Accommodation at Spitsbergen Guesthouse is included.

Day 2     Ymerbukta
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Breakfast and check out by 09:00.

Final packing of equipment.

Transport to Ymerbukta/Borebukta with open polar circle boats, approximately 1-2 hours. From here on all we need are skis, pulkas and backpacks with our own equipment. There is no set schedule for the trip; the route and tempo will be adjusted to fit the weather conditions and the participants.

Days 3 - 6     Trollheimen
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

During the following days we ski in the beautiful Trollheimen area, in Oscar II’s Land. We will plan our route each day, using the current weather and the guides’ knowledge to find the most exciting adventures

Day 7     Ymerbukta - Longyearbyen
Meals: Breakfast

The ski expedition ends in Ymerbukta around midday. We will be picked up by polar circle boats and returned to Longyearbyen.

Notes

All times are subject to change.

The travel schedule will be altered should the weather conditions deem it necessary.

How Demanding Is The Expedition?

This expedition requires the participants to be physically fit, as we cover 6-10 miles a day pulling a pulka with equipment. Each participant should be an experienced skier and be familiar with camping outdoors in tents during the winter.

Be aware that the weather can change fairly quickly and the temperature can drop dramatically. The participants are normally split into teams of two and you will each pull a pulka. The pulkas contain collective equipment such as tents, portable stoves, food and fuel for the whole trip. The pulka weighs 20-30 kg. In addition you will have your personal equipment which can either be carried in a backpack or packed in a pulka. Participants are expected to take part in setting up camp and cooking.
