Itinerary

Day 1     Stockholm
Accommodation: Sokos Vasilievsky

Arrival at Stockholm Airport Arlanda, pick up rental car and drive to the hotel. In Stockholm, we recommend a canal cruise or a visit to the Vasa Museum. The impressive warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 but was salvaged 333 years later in 1961. She has since been restored and can now be seen with her complete rigging at the Vasa Museum. Remember to also visit the famous old town, Gamla Stan, or one of the other many museums.

Day 2     Stockholm - Sundsvall
Accommodation: Clarion Collection Hotel Grand Sundsvall
Meals: Breakfast

STOCKHOLM – SUNDSVALL (411km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive north via Söderhamn and Hudiksvall. We recommend a visit to Hudiksvall. Hudiksvall is a city that has been badly damaged by fires during the years, however the oldest part is still standing in Fiskarstan with houses from the mid 1800 and beautiful narrow cobbled streets. Here you will find St. Jacobs church which is also one of the remaining old buildings, situated high above the town with a great view of the harbor. We recommend a visit to Helsinglands Museum (entrance not included) which offers a great insight to the history of Hudiksvall and the region. Continue the tour to Sundsvall, a natural hub in northern Sweden, strategically located on the coast. Take the opportunity to shop in the ancient Stone Town, Birsta city or why not visit Sweden's first international casino (entrance not included). Or you may want to join in on a rooftop tour (not included), a guided historical experience with a great view over the city. Accommodation at Clarion Collection Hotel Grand Sundsvall, or similar

Day 3     Sundsvall - Umea
Accommodation: Clarion Collection Hotel Uman
Meals: Breakfast

SUNDSVALL – UMEÅ (282km)

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, drive along the coastal line from Sundsvall to Umeå. Umeå was founded in 1622 by King Gustav II Adolf but a massive fire destroyed large parts of the city in 1888 which is why Umeå is often referred to as the “City of Birches”. After the fire, measures were taken to stop flames jumping from house to house in any future conflagration and wide boulevards were constructed with 3,000 birches planted along their edges. We recommend to join in on a regular city walking tour (free of charge, also possible in English), starting from the Tourist Office in Umeå around 14.00 (duration approximately 1,5 hours).

Day 4     Umea - Ostersund
Accommodation: Clarion Hotel Grand Ostersund
Meals: Breakfast

UMEÅ – ÖSTERSUND (357km)

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, drive via Ragundadalen, to Östersund. In Ragundadalen, we recommend to visit to the nature reserve Döda Fallet (the Dead Falls) where you may ponder over how a man called Magnus Huss, according to legend, mistakenly moved the massive waterway of the River Indalsälven and thereby emptying most of Lake Ragundasjön overnight, over two hundred years ago. Döda Fallet was previously one of Sweden’s mightiest waterfalls, nowadays you can walk around and study the giant pot holes and experience Ragundadalen’s scenic nature. After your visit to Ragundadalen, continue to Östersund. In Östersund, we recommend a visit to Jamtli (not included), an indoor and open-air museum within walking distance of the centre of Östersund that gives a fascinating and entertaining perspective on the cultural history of the provinces of Jämtland and Härjedalen. Jamtli comprises an indoor museum with exhibitions, and an open air museum with heritage houses and farms. In the summer exciting reenactments of history take place here, and visitors with a fascination for the Viking Age should make sure not to miss the 1000-year old Överhogdal tapestries.

Day 5     Ostersund - Mora
Accommodation: Best Western Mora Hotell & Spa
Meals: Breakfast

ÖSTERSUND – MORA (310km)

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, continue to the beautiful city Mora. We recommend a tour of the region of Dalarna starting in Mora with a visit to the Zorn Museum and the Zorn House (not inlcuded). The museum displays the works of the artist Anders Zorn and the house is a superb example of an artist´s home from the time of the turn of the century. Leave Mora and drive south to Nusnäs for a visit to the carpentry (not included) where they fabricate the famous Dala horses. Here you may also also see the exhibition and visit the well assorted giftshop. Continue to the festival stage Dalhalla, which was created by nature when a 4 km big meteor fell from space 360 million years ago! In the afternoon, return to Mora.

Day 6     Mora - Uppsala - Stockholm
Accommodation: Sokos Vasilievsky
Meals: Breakfast

MORA – STOCKHOLM (308km)

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, leave Mora and continue the tour back to Stockholm. En route we recommend a visit the former home of the famous Swedish artist Carl Larsson in Sundborn (not included). The home became an art project and is now a paradise for art lovers and anyone with an interest in design and gardening. Drive past Avesta where you will see the world´s largest Dala Horse, situated by the road, next to small shops and cafes. Continue to Uppsala, where we recommend paying a visit to the impressive 13th century Cathedral, one of the largest in northern Europe. Drive up the castle hill to Uppsala Castle and enjoy a magnificent view of Uppsala and its surroundings. Leave Uppsala and drive south to the small picturesque town of Sigtuna, once the capital of Sweden and one of the oldest towns. Sights of interest are the Town Hall, probably the smallest in the world, the Maria Church, dating back to the 13th century and much more. After your visit to Sigtuna, continue to Stockholm for check-in at the hotel.
