A remarkable and unique journey to the top of the world, the North Cape, Europe\'s northernmost point, including two relaxing days on the Hurtigruten, the Norwegian Coastal Voyage from Hammerfest to Svolvaer. You will experience picturesque villages, breathtaking mountain peaks and weather permitting, witness the spectacular Northern Lights. The highlight of the adventure is in the Lofoten Islands, where you take part in an Orca Whale safari. This is the home of the largest concentration of Killer whales in the world, and you get the chance to get close and personal with these incredible mammals.

Itinerary

 
Day 1     Oslo
Accommodation: Clarion Hotel Royal Christiania

Arrival in Oslo, the capital of Norway, which is situated at the head of Oslo Fjord surrounded by forested ridges. Transfer on your own to your hotel.

 
Day 2     Oslo - Alta
Accommodation: Scandic Alta Hotel
Meals: Breakfast / Dinner

After breakfast at the hotel, please be in the hotel\'s reception area between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM, to meet your tour escort and receive information on the upcoming tour program. Morning at leisure until your private coach transfer to Gardermoen Airport for your flight (DY264 11:00 - 13:00) to Alta. Alta is known as the \"Town of the Northern Lights\". At Alta airport you will board a private coach for a 3 hour city sightseeing tour including entrance to the the Alta Museum to see the ancient rock carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tour ends at your hotel. The evening is free and if you look up in the night sky, weather permitting, you might see the Northern Lights.

 
Day 3     Alta - North Cape - Honningsvaag

Early morning departure from Alta in your long distance private coach for your journey through the Norwegian Lapland, to North Cape via Honningsvag, \"The Town by the North Cape\". We will pass through Honningsvag in order to meet with the daily convoy at the North Cape Road crossing near Skarsvag, and finally making our way to the North Cape, the northern most tip of Europe, representing the final frontier with the arctic sea. Entrance is included to the North Cape hall, the tourist centre on the North Cape Plateau, where you will also enjoy champagne and caviar, and receive a certificate. The North Cape hall has a Supervideograph wide-screen showing films of the four seasons at the North Cape, there is also a Thai Pavilion, historical tableaux, the world\'s northernmost ecumenical chapel, souvenir shop, post office and information office. After our visit to the North Cape we follow the convoy back to Honningsvag for check-in to you hotel. Rest of the afternoon is at leisure.

 
Day 4     Honningsvaag - Hammerfest - Tromso
On Board the Hurtigruten
Meals: Breakfast / Dinner

Early morning departure by coach for our journey to Hammerfest, travelling south again, via the impressive Porsanger fjord. On arrival in Hammerfest, the \"Northern most Town in the World\", we will visit the Royal and Ancient Polar Bear Society, located next door to the Hurtigruten quay. Here you will experience life in the arctic, including a entrance to the interactive room where you will feel the cold of the arctic winter and see a special screening of the Northern Lights. At 12.15 we check-in and embark the Hurtigruten ship for our overnight Norwegian Coastal voyage to Svolvaer. This unique voyage, also referred to as \"The worldâs most beautiful voyage\", will take us firstly to Oksjord via the Soroysundet strait, then across the open sea of Lopphavet before cruising the calm waters of Skjervoy. Dinner served on board. Just before midnight the ship makes the last call of the day at Tromso, the capital of the arctic.

 
Day 5     Harstad - Lofoten - Svolvaer

Early this morning we make a call at the small coastal town of Harstad before continuing our spectacular sea journey on the Norwegian Coastal voyage. We set course for the island groups of Vesteraalen and Lofoten, believed to be the most beautiful part of the journey. At 11.00 we arrive at Risoyhamn where you check out of cabin, while luggage placed in storage room near reception. The ship then navigates the shallow waters of the Risoyrenna Channel, where the sand banks and the sea-green waters are clearly visible on either side of the ship. Weather permitting the ship will make a short detour into the breathtaking Trollfjord, before arriving in Svolaer at 18.30.

 
Day 6     Svolvaer - Kabelvag
Accommodation: Rica Hotel
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Early morning transfer to \"the old Lofoten town\", Kabelvag where your Orca safari will begin. The day starts with a lecture on the killer whales before boarding the charming veteran boat, the M/F Gamle Lofotferga, at 9.00. We head out into the Vestfjord, the waters between Lofoten and the mainland, where you find the largest concentration of Killer whales in the world, attracted by giant shoals of herring. Once the Killer whales have been located, everyone has the option to ride in a Zodiac to get a little closer to the Orca\'s and the elements of nature (not included in tour cost).

There is a 3 course lunch served on board which is included, along with coffee, tea and hot chocolate. You will also be issued with warm overalls for the entire journey and special survival suits, gloves and glasses for those who join the optional zodiac safari. On our return journey, weather permitting, we can gaze upon the flickering and dancing Northern Lights. The Orca safari ends in Kabelvag where you will then be transferred back to your hotel in Svolvaer.

 
Day 7     Svolvaer - Oslo

After breakfast at your hotel, board your private coach for a transfer to Svolvaer airport for your flight (WF803 07:54 - 08:21 & DY201 09:55 - 11:25) to Oslo via Bodo�. On arrival at Oslo Gardermoen Airport, we depart by private coach for combined transfer and city sightseeing tour. We will enjoy a magnificent view of the Oslo Fjord from Holmenkollen Hill, with the famous ski jumps where the Winter Games were held in 1952. Among other highlights, we will visit the Viking Ship Museum, with its three Viking vessels. The Vigeland\'s Park, one of the major Scandinavian cultural treasures, will welcome us with the sculptures of Gustav Vigeland, who dedicated his life to his artistic works. We will also pass by the Royal Palace and the main street, Karl Johan. The tour ends at your hotel for check-in.

 
Day 8     Oslo
Meals: Breakfast

Tour concludes after breakfast at the hotel. Individual transfer to Oslo Gardermoen airport.
