Relaxed tour concentrating on the rugged Eastern Fjords with its numerous small villages along with the South shore of Iceland.

Begin your trip exploring the beautiful cities of Reykjavik and Egilsstadir. Then receive your own private car and travel along the scenic coastline of the Eastern fjords to Hofn. Visit a glacial lagoon, hike to waterfalls in Skaftafell National Park, and see rare geysers.

Itinerary

 
Day 1     Keflavik - Reykjavik

Arrive in Keflavik and transfer to hotel in Reyjavik on your own.

 
Day 2     Keflavik - Egilsstadir
Meals: Breakfast

Morning flight to Egilsstadir. Spend the day in Egilsstadir area, with the possibility of exploring Hallormsstadur and Lake Logurinn. It is also possible to visit Borgarfjordur eystri, one of the most beautiful and isolated fjords of the country.

Optional: Visit to Halsey delta area.

 
Day 3     Egilsstadir - Hofn
Meals: Breakfast

Drive south through the spectacular East Fjords to the town of Hofn in Hornafjordur, a gateway to the south coast. On the way it is possible to take a boat tour to Papey island where thousands of puffins nest in summer or visit the famous stone collection of Petra at Stodvarfjordur.

Optional: Boat tour to Papey island, Petra's stone collection.

 
Day 4     Hofn - Skaftafell National Park - Kirkjubaejarklaustur
Meals: Breakfast

Drive from Hofn to Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon and on to Skaftafell national park, a green oasis nestling below the great Vatnajokull Glacier and surrounded by black desert sands. A hike in the park can be recommended. Onwards to the picturesque village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur.

Optional: Jeep tour to Vatnajokull glacier, Boat tour on Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, glacier hike in Skaftafell area.

 
Day 5     Kirkjubaejarklaustur - Vik
Meals: Breakfast

Drive across the vast lava field of Eldhraun to Vik, known for its magnificent black basalt beaches and cliffs teeming with bird life. Go past dyrholaey - a rocky headland to skogafoss, one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country with Myrdalsjokull glacier in the backdrop. Another option is to drive the beautiful mountain track Fjallabaksleid, through Landmannalaugar nature reserve (4WD needed, track open from late June)

Optional: Snow scooter tour on Myrdalsjokull glacier, Boat tour from Vik, Skogar folk museum.

*Please note that Dyrholaey is closed during nesting season in spring, middle May til June 23rd

 
Day 6     Vik - Geysir - Thingvellir - Reykjavik
Meals: Breakfast

Visit Gullfoss waterfall, the famous Geyser geothermal area and Thingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament. The park itself is situated in a stunning volcanic landscape of mountains and lava flows, on the border of Iceland's largest lake. Continue to Reykjavik in the afternoon.

Optional: Whitewater Rafting in the Geyser area, ATV-quad biking in Haukadalur.

 
Day 7     Reykjavik - Keflavik
Meals: Breakfast

Arrangements end after breakfast.
