Day 2     Husavik
Meals: Breakfast

Morning free at leisure in Reykjavík.

In the afternoon domestic flight with Eagle Air from Reykjavík to Húsavík, 45 minutes flight. Iceland Travel staff member will meet the group in the Icelandair Hotel Reykjavík Natura lobby 1 hour

before departure flight. Departure from Reykjavík at 13.30. Arrival at Húsavík at 14.15.

Upon arrival in Húsavík meet your English speaking guide and begin your journey of incredible North Iceland with an impressive visit to Goðafoss (Waterfall of the Gods); where ice-blue glacial

water flows over an elegant semi-circular arc to create blue-green swirling patterns in the water among the surrounding lava. Continuing onwards to the turf houses of Grenjaðarstaðir Folk Museum, we get a taste of the “old country” and learn how Icelanders in the 1900s survived the harsh northerly climate before visiting a modern-day greenhouse where geothermal heating is utilized to grow all varieties of fruits and vegetables just outside the Arctic Circle. Evening Northern Lights Hunt & Húsavík Safnarhús Museum:The evening heats up with excitement as we stroll around this area just outside the Arctic Circle which is a prime location for viewing the elusive Northern Lights. We take a short break and visit Safnarhús Museum of Húsavík featuring a polar bear and maritime exhibits.

Day 3     Husavik
Meals: Breakfast

Ahead is a fully packed day of wildly varying landscapes. We travel to the unforgettable Lake Mývatn area, a geological wonderland including the peculiar lava formations at Dimmuborgir, the pseudo-craters at Skútustaðir and Laxá Salmon River.

Some of the most visually bizarre attractions in the region are the mud pits and vibrant colors of Hverarönd. The journey continues to Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall located in awe-inspiring Jökulsárgljúfur canyon.

With an amazing landscape where peaceful white snow accentuates black lava fields in magical artistry, the Myvatn region has become a favorite filming location for major motion pictures like ‘Oblivion,’ starring Tom Cruise, ‘Prometheus’ directed by Ridley Scott and the popular ‘Game of Thrones’ fantasy series. Before returning to Húsavík we visit the Myvatn Nature Baths and enjoy a relaxing time outdoors in a completely natural body of geothermal water nestled in an area of fragile beauty.

Day 4     Reykjavik

Húsavík is a cozy town on the edge of Arctic wilderness perfect for our handcrafted walking tour where we connect you to local ambiance, walk along the bustling harbor teeming with colorful trawlers and visit the superb Husavik Whale Museum exhibiting Iceland’s whale and whaling history as well as a number of real whale skeletons on display.

In the afternoon we drive around the Tjörnes peninsula, and explore the remarkable horseshoe-shaped canyon at Ásbyrgi National Park which Vikings believed to be a hoof-print left by Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged flying horse from Norse mythology.

Drive to Husavik Airport for an afternoon flight back to Reykjavik.

Departure from Husavik at 16.15

Arrival in Reykjavik at 17.00

Evening free at leisure.

Overnight at Icelandair Hotel Natura Reykjavík.

 
Day 5     Reykjavik
Meals: Breakfast

Transfer to Keflavik International Airport (not included).

Optional: Departure via Blue Lagoon.

Enjoy relaxing in the geothermally heated waters of the Blue Lagoon where guests have access to a sauna with lagoon views, a cozy steam-bath carved into a lava cave, and a warm flowing waterfall which provides an energizing massage. Be on the lookout for white buckets located throughout the lagoon which contain the famous silica-mud, an essential part of the spa experience.
