Discover Patagonia and Antarctica Expedition Cruises

16 Days / 7 locations in Chile, Antarctica, and Argentina

Enjoy the best of the eastern and southern Patagonian coast and Antarctica!

arting with an overnight stay at a hotel in Santiago de Chile, you will meet your expedition cruises ship in Punta Arenas. Then the journey south begins, and we sail through the extremely narrow Canal Gabriel and into the Garibaldi Fjord, and witness the mighty Garibaldi Glacier unfolding at the end of the fjord.

If the weather is favorable we might go ashore on Cape Horn before crossing the Drake Passage. Sailing into the most remote area of the world, with its endless ocean and continent covered with snow and ice, you will feel like a true explorer. In Antarctica, you will enjoy your days with landings that include visits to the most interesting places, looking at thousands of penguins and seals, and kayaking.

Turning back, we will have another opportunity to go ashore in Cape Horn before sailing into the Beagle Channel. We will have another landing in the Chilean fjords before we disembark in Punta Arenas.

Itinerary

Day 1     Santiago

Your adventure begins with an overnight stay at a hotel in Santiago de Chile. Take some time to enjoy this lively city!

Day 2     Santiago - Punta Arenas
On Board the MS Midnatsol
Meals: Breakfast / Dinner

Today you will fly to Punta Arenas, where your expedition ship is awaiting you. We kick off the voyage with a welcome-on-board dinner.

Day 3     Chilean Fjords - Tierra del Fuego
On Board the MS Midnatsol
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

We start the adventure by sailing past Isla Tucker and through the extremely narrow Canal Gabriel. Enjoy being on board and getting to know your fellow adventurers. Seeing the Patagonian coast from the seaside is incredible, and sailing in the fjords here will leave you breathless.

Day 4     Chilean Fjords - Tierra del Fuego
On Board the MS Midnatsol
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

The Garibaldi Fjord is just one of the Chilean fjords we will explore. When we enter the last part of the Garibaldi Fjord you are in for a beautiful surprise: The Garibaldi Glaciers. The mountains are steep and even if there is snow on top of the mountains, the area is very green and full of wildlife. Come ashore and perhaps we will see sea lions, Andean condors, and several other birds species only found here. There will be an Argentinean wine-tasting in the evening.

Day 5     Chilean Fjords - Tierra del Fuego
On Board the MS Midnatsol
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

At almost 56° South, Cape Horn is the southernmost point of South America. When ranking all the mythical places on Earth, Cape Horn is high on the list. Before the Panama Canal, seafarers had to pass this infamous, rocky island to cross from one side of the Americas to the other. We will do our best to make a landing on Cape Horn – however, this is an area known for high seas and challenging conditions.

Day 6     At Sea
On Board the MS Midnatsol
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

We cross the Drake Passage and tomorrow we will actually be in Antarctica! There will be movies all day, showing everything from cartoons to documentaries. You can also join several lectures that will make your visit to Antarctica even more interesting, or poke around in the Explorer Room for some scientific fun.

Day 7     Antarctic Peninsula
On Board the MS Midnatsol
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Being in Antarctica you are in the most remote area of the world. You will feel like a real explorer, especially when you see the endless ocean and continent covered with snow and ice. It might come as a surprise that the penguins are not afraid of humans. Well-behaved visitors usually cause nothing more than disinterested yawns. Our guess is that your reaction will be the exact opposite! We will visit research stations, places that were used by the whalers in the past, landings with great surroundings, and have theme days on board. Some of the places we will see while exploring Antarctica is South Shetland and Cuverville Island, home to one of the largest known colonies of gentoo penguins. Neko Harbour is beautifully located in the innermost part of Andvord Bay, and Paradise Harbour got its descriptive name from the whalers during the last century. You can also look forward to visiting Half Moon Island, considered a jewel of diversity in the polar landscape. Enjoy Antarctica by hiking, kayaking, and looking at thousands of penguins and seals, and visiting the most interesting places. On board there are several lectures, ‘scientific experiments’ for the Young Explorers Antarctica club - and the views from deck are exquisite.

After exploring this superlative continent, we set course for Ushuaia.

Days 8 - 12     Antarctic Peninsula
On Board the MS Midnatsol
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Continue your voyage in Antarctica

Day 13     At Sea
On Board the MS Midnatsol
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

As we head back to South America, there will be classes on how to edit your photos. You can also spend the day on deck, in the Explorer room, attend lectures, and enjoy photos and films with recaps of our experiences so far.

Day 14     Cape Horn
On Board the MS Midnatsol
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Before we sail into the Beagle Channel, we will try to go ashore on Cape Horn if we weren't able to do this on our voyage south. Then may visit Puerto Williams, a small town between the ocean and the mountain. On our way back to Punta Arenas, we sail through the Chilean fjords.

Day 15     Chilean Fjords
On Board the MS Midnatsol
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

We sail through the Chilean fjords for another day of wild nature and impressive sights. In majestic surroundings of wilderness and glaciers, we will find a suitable place to land. In the evening there is a farewell dinner.

Day 16     Punta Arenas
Meals: Breakfast

Your voyage ends in Punta Arenas. After debarkation we transfer you to the airport for your flight to Santiago de Chile.
