Chile, the longest and narrowest country in South America is 2,634 miles long and has only 110 miles of average width. It is a place of geographic and climatic extremes. In the North, the Atacama Desert, the driest desert in the world, is the cradle of ancestral indigenous cultures with beautiful and solitary coastal beaches.

Arica is a border capital and, as such, it has a busy commercial and cultural interchange with Peru and Bolivia. In this are you will find the colonial town of Putre, the ritual village of Parinacota, the surprising Chungara lake, surrounded by snow-covered volcanoes, archaeological expressions like rock art that have been declared National Monuments and that represent a valuable testimony of the past, colonial churches founded at the beginning of the XVII century on lands of Indian towns, the historical Morro de Arica, the fertile Valley of Azapa, and calm beaches,.

Day 1     Arica
Accommodation: Arica Hotel

Arrive in Arica. Assistance and transfer to the hotel of your choice. Half day tour around the city visiting the San Marcos Church-Cathedral, the Arica - La Paz Railway station, the historical Morro and its Museum, Costanera Sur Avenue with its La Lisera and El Laucho beaches, Costanera Norte Avenue with its Chinchorro and Las Machas beaches, Municipal Casino and the artisan fair

 
Day 2     Arica - Chungara Lake - Putre
Accommodation: Arica Hotel
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch

Breakfast served in the restaurant of the hotel. Full day tour leaving from the hotel. We travel towards the El Lauca National Park crossing the Lluta Valley to observe the geoglyphs in the slopes of the hills. We arrive in the town of Poconchile to appreciate its church. Tour around the town of Socoroma. Enter the Lauca National Park, a nature sanctuary with the Chungara lake, one of the highest lakes of the world, (14, 764 feet above sea level). In its calm water the Parinacota, Pomerape, Quinchazata and Guallatire volcanoes are reflected, with their permanent fumaroles and where, in this spectacular landscape, hundreds of guanacos, alpacas, vicunas, llamas and viscachas rest. Lunch and tour to the town of Putre. At dusk, return to the hotel.

 
Day 3     Arica - Azapa Valley
Accommodation: Arica Hotel
Meals: Breakfast

Breakfast served in the restaurant of the hotel. Half day tour to the fertile Azapa Valley bordering the Sombrero hill with its panels of geoglyphs where the so called Flock of Camelidae stands out. We will tour the characteristic field of mini golf, Sagrado hill of Alto Ramirez, with all the ancestral beliefs expressed in geoglyphs, the Pukará of San Lorenzo, a defensive Village raised on artificial terraces and where cane houses were built. We will visit the Archaeological Museum of the University of Tarapacá, to observe the old inhabitants of Arica until the arrival of the Spaniards, emphasizing mummies of the Chinchorro culture which are of complicated preparation and the oldest of the world. We will conclude our tour with a visit to an artisan town before returning to the hotel.
