A Pretaste of Christmas in the North

5 Days / 2 locations in Iceland

Experience the Icelandic Christmas, and meet our thirteen Yule Lads

The North of Iceland is full of magical sights, adventure and history. During this winter break you’ll visit Reykjavik, the northernmost capital in the world, before flying to the charming town of Akureyri where you’ll embark on a journey to the Lake Myvatn area, learning about Icelandic Christmas traditions, and encountering phenomenal natural landscapes.

Itinerary

Day 1     Reykjavik
Accommodation: Reykjavik Natura Berjaya Hotel

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Well, almost! The mysterious lava plain of the Reykjanes Peninsula might not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Christmas, but it will be the first thing to greet you during your Christmas holiday in Iceland!

A 50-minute drive away is the capital city of Iceland, Reykjavik, where you'll find your lodging for the night at the modern Reykjavik Lights Hotel, situated next to the Laugardalur recreational area.

Day 2     Akureyri
Accommodation: Akureyri Hotel
Meals: Breakfast

After a relaxing morning with a delicious breakfast and perhaps a stroll around the city, your journey takes you to the domestic airport where you'll take a one-hour flight to the beautiful town of Akureyri, Iceland’s second largest urban area.

Make your way to the town centre and settle in at your hotel.

Optional (at extra cost):

A Husky Dog Sledding tour is the perfect addition to your Christmas trip, whether you’re looking for a day or evening activity. This tour includes a pick-up at your hotel and is available at 3pm or 9.45 pm.

Day 3     Akureyri
Accommodation: Akureyri Hotel
Meals: Breakfast

Today is all about having fun with your family and getting you into the Christmas spirit! Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Akureyri and from there you'll start the day by visiting the magical Godafoss Waterfall in all its winter glory.

Dimmuborgir volcanic rock formation is the home to the 13 Icelandic Yule Lads (our version of Father Christmas or Santa Claus), and today they'll come out to play pranks, sing and dance with their visitors.

In the afternoon visit Myvatn Nature bathe ( entrance not included)

Day 4     Reykjavik
Accommodation: Reykjavik Natura Berjaya Hotel
Meals: Breakfast

A morning flight to Reykjavik will give you a chance to roam around Reykjavik's city centre in the afternoon and perhaps do a bit of last-minute Christmas gift shopping. Be sure to ask us if there are any concerts, or other interesting cultural events, taking place during your stay as the cultural scene becomes very busy during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Overnight at Hotel Natura

Day 5     Reykjavik
Meals: Breakfast

Today you'll return home after a fun-filled family vacation in Iceland. We wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and hope to see you again soon!

If your flight is in the afternoon you can spend the day at your leisure or experience Iceland further by going on a day tour. We can also help you arrange to stay in Iceland for some extra days
